Abstract
This talk will describe ongoing research at USC on the automatic
translation of human languages. I will focus on treating certain
translation problems as exercises in codebreaking. These problems
include:
- transliterating names and proper nouns (with applications in MT and
information retrieval)
- deciphering unknown scripts (with applications in archaeology)
- translating sentences, and
- generating sentences from representations of meaning
