Some of our renderings

(If these renderings look dark, try them on an SGI, which have gamma corrected monitors)

A wooden teapot. On the left, just the wood shader is used. On the right, the wood shader is combined with an SGI-like shader to add a light source and a specular highlight on the teapot.

A marble teapot. On the left, just the marble shader is used. On the right, the marble shader is combined with an SGI-like shader to add a light source and a specular highlight on the teapot.

The "Gates chair shader" I alluded to in office hours one day. It is an anisotopic shader, which means that the appearance of the material depends on the angle of incident light. In this case, the color of the surface depends on the angle that the ray from the eye to the surface makes around the normal, and the intensity or brightness depends on the angle between the ray and the normal. I have also added some noise to the image to better approximate the appearance of the chair.
