CS348B Spring 2016 Rendering Competition

The renderings below were created for the rendering competition in CS348B: Image Synthesis Techniques, taught by Pat Hanrahan in the Spring quarter of 2016.
Grand Prize

Nighttime Bear and River
by David Hyde, Lingxiao Li, and Tushar Paul

David, Lingxiao, and Tushar used fluid simulation, volumetric scattering, and their own implemention of the Marschner hair/fur model to render a bear walking in a river at night interacting with fireflies.

First Prize

Strawberry Ice Cream
by Brennan Shacklett and Peter Do

Brennan and Peter used a mix of fluid simulation and simplex noise to model ice cream, and implemented a sophisticated subsurface scattering model for the material.

Second Prize

Underwater Rendering with Realistic Water Properties
by Trisha Lian and Sarah Jobalia

Trisha and Sarah implemented a method to simulate light traveling through water, taking into account chlorophyll concentration, the amount of dissolved organic matter, and the concentration of large and small particles.
