CS348B Spring 2018 Rendering Competition

The renderings below were created for the rendering competition in CS348B: Image Synthesis Techniques, taught by Pat Hanrahan and Matt Pharr in the Spring quarter of 2018.
Grand Prize

Cotton Candy
by Chenlin Meng, Hubert Teo, and Jiren Zhu

Chenlin, Hubert, and Jiren modelled cotton candy using a set of procedurally generated cylindrical curves for the candy's fibres surrounding a homogenous inner volume for the candy's interior.

First Prize

Metamaterials
by Philip Etter

Philip developed two novel algorithms for rendering metamaterials based on transforming distance estimators and solving the geodesic equations.

Second Prize

Bubble Rendering
by Jun Li, Zhenzhi Xia

Jun and Zhenzhi added a lens model to PBRT and simulated thin film interference to render soap bubbles artistically.
