To clarify some differences between radiometry and photometry ~

Radiometry ~ the study of light without considering humans

  • A spectroradiometer allows us to measure power as a function of wavelength
  • A radiometer lets us measure total power, integrating over all wavelengths
  • Some measurements include radiant intensity, radiance, and irradiance

Photometry ~ the study of light as seen by humans

  • A spectrophotometer allows us to measure power we see as a function of wavelength
  • A photometer, aka photographic light meter, lets us measure intensity of light
  • Measurements include luminous intensity, luminance, and illuminance
