Abstract

"Geri's Game," Pixar's academy award nominated animated short film, is the delightful story of an aging codger named Geri who plays chess in the park. Geri plays against himself and somehow manages to win every game -- even if it means cheating! Directed by Jan Pinkava, "Geri's Game" marks Pixar's return to the tradition begun with "Luxo Jr." of using short-film production to drive research and development. In this presentation, Tony Derose and Michael Kass will screen the film and discuss its two main technical innovations: the use of subdivision surfaces and simulated cloth dynamics.
