Stanford provides free downloads for licensed antivirus, antispyware, and other utilities at: Essential Stanford Software
Microsoft provides software and support via the MSDN-AA program administered by the EE and CS departments which provide licenses for MS Office, Visio, and Windows itself.

For information and downloads, visit their websites:

Note:For convenience when installing a system from scratch, we currently have Windows XP install CDs and a little firewall router so you can install while connected to the net. After installation, you still must go to Microsoft's Windows Update site and add several dozen additional patches, but this CD lets you get on the network safely. You must still use the MSDN-AA sites to first obtain a license for Windows XP before you install..

To borrow the CD, please contact Heather or Ada in Gates 368...and please also return it.

Anyone needing to run a server on a Windows machine should first discuss this by sending mail to the support group. Users needing to run a web server should use Apache. Furthermore, no one should install the Windows IIS component to run a web or ftp server. Indeed, there's no longer any reason to run ftp since you can easily set up an sshd with Cygwin which will permit encrypted and compressed transfers via scp or sftp.
