Pixar's Collections of Photographic Textures

Pixar One Twenty Eight and Pixar Classic Textures Vol. 2 are Pixar's custom collections of high-quality photographic textures. Pixar developed these distinctive material textures for use in signature images and films. Each texture on these CDs was created by a professional photographer specifically for use in production quality digital imaging. Every texture was created using optimum lighting, scale and perspective.

Unlike other libraries which were created from video, second source images or scanned with low-quality desktop scanners, each Pixar texture was designed for use in computer graphics from its inception. Each photograph was created from an original material sample, photographed in a controlled on-site environment and then processed in a custom-equipped texture laboratory.

High resolution — Full color

Pixar One Twenty Eight includes 128 unique images and Pixar Classic Textures Vol. 2 includes 100 images. All the textures are 512x512x24 bit images in TIFF format. In addition, the libraries include 128x128x8 bit versions of the images which can be used for placement, fills and on-screen presentations. A thumbnail sample of each image is also included to make it easy to locate and select desired textures.


Seamless tiling

The texture collections incorporate a patented technology which allows the textures to be tiled seamlessly. As a result, the textures, when aligned and tiled to cover a large area, will appear as a single smooth image without breaks or lines.

The Pixar folding process preserves the integrity of the original data; therefore, the textures can be scaled or post processed without any degradation in quality.

The Pixar tiling technology makes the design process much more efficient. Smaller images offer the quality expected from much larger ones. This saves both valuable time and disk space.

Output

The seamless tiling makes these images suitable for use in production. There is no need to purchase an original transparency. These images can be tiled into a resolution which is appropriate for output to film or color separation with no loss in clarity.

Compatibility

The Pixar Classic Textures collections are compatible with any application that reads TIFF files. The images may also be used to create realistic texture maps for use in any 3D application.

System requirements:

Any UNIX workstation which supports an ISO compatible disk drive and any application which can read TIFF format image files.
