Abstract

We present a robust, infrastructure-centric, and platform-independent approach to integrating personal digital assistants (PDAs) and other mobile computing devices into our Interactive Workroom (the iRoom). We present applications, experience, and lessons from our exploration of three specific programming techniques that enable the integration of PDAs into iRoom applications. We focus on the two models that allow developers to create iRoom applications without requiring detailed knowledge of the iRoom's network infrastructure or PDA-specific programming techniques.
