There are some GEDCOMs floating around (http://donchesnut.com) that include a John Ross (b.1715 in Fermanagh Co., Ireland, d. <1793 in Botetourt Co., VA) who apparently immigrated with family including a daughter Mary Ross (b.Abt.1758 in Ireland) around 1759. They apparently landed first in New Castle, DE, and then lived about 5 years in MD before moving on to Botetourt Co., VA. There is a marriage record for Mary Ross marrying a Richard McDonald on 28 Jan 1779 in Botetourt Co., VA.

Bryan McDonald III (1732-1777) married Susan Ogle and had a daughter Mary McDonald (1758-1815) in Botetourt Co., VA, who married a John Ross. I believe this John Ross is the brother of Mary Ross.
