In the fall 2002, I started metal machining under Prof. Beach in his
Computer Aided Product Realization course.
Below you can find the products I
created.

I designed a logo based on a painting by the expressionist Egon Schiele. The final
design was cut from two-colored plastic sign stock. (larger version) |

For our first individual design project we had to develop a bottle opener for crimped and twist caps.
We were only supposed to use 2d contour shapes, so I decided to work on a steel rod for a nice 3D feel.
The final design was machined from stainless steel. (larger version) |

My first final design project the "PhotoDock",
was a wall mounted laptop storage that leverages the laptop’s display as a
digital picture frame. The goal is to deliver all of technology's benefits
without the looks. Initial research, sketches and a product brief are
available, but the project changed to a "Oceanic Sushi Plate" featured
below. Request documents at georgpetschnigg at hotmail.com |

One wonderful aspect about design is to see how designs
evolve.
While working on the PhotoDock I decided to develop a process that united computer graphics and mechanical engineering.
The outcome was the oceanic sushi plate "ShushiPlate Cr", a sample prototype of a series of sushi dishes that could have
surface finishes ranging from still sea to tidal wave. I would really like to produce the whole series one day.
