mmmmm... Cabot Cheese
In June 2003 Dan, Ron, and I took a trip to the Cabot Cheese Factory in Cabot, Vermont. In January 2004 Mark Hackett, from Cabot Cheese Marketing, came across my photos from the trip, and, recognizing our passion for fine dairy products, sent us complementary Cabot merchandise, including Cabot T-shirts and four and a half pounds of cheese.
Of course, it would be impossible to eat that much cheese in one sitting, but we felt obligated to give it our best effort. In addition to Ron, Dan, and myself, we also invited fellow Cabot-lovers Neel Joshi and Soren Spies (and Soren's roommate, Mike), to help us celebrate our immense good fortune...

Dan and Merrie, wearing the uniforms of true cheddar connoisseurs, build muscle by lifting the four and a half pounds of cheese.
After three years of California cheese (which is yellow, despite the fact that the natural color of milk is white), our bounty is well-appreciated: two pounds of Cabot Extra Sharp White, two pounds of Cabot Vintage Choice, and a half pound of Cabot's Taste of Tuscany. Of course, we couldn't possibly enjoy this fine cheese without some Woven Wheats.
Ron and Neel look on as Dan cuts the ceremonial first slice.
Ron and Neel show their Cabot spirit by modeling a surprisingly tasteful Cabot polo shirt and Cabot cap. Free food and free clothes -- what more could a grad student ask for???
Dan is super excited about Taste of Tuscany. Those bits of sundried tomato drive him out of control!
Despite our best efforts, there are still several pounds of cheese left. Ron shows his commitment to the project by inventing a new consumption technique -- instead of putting a little cheese on top of a Woven Wheat, Ron instead puts a few Woven Wheat crumbs on top of a hefty slice of Extra Sharp White. If only we were pursuing Ph.D.s in culinary arts instead of in computer science...
Soren relishes some Vintage Choice... and he's from Wisconsin, so he has high cheese standards.
Merrie and Soren want one more slice. Again.
The aftermath... we estimate that about three pounds remain, which means that each of the six of us ate about one-quarter of a pound of cheese. Mmmmmm...
