Star Wars Episode III Premiere:
May 19th, 2005, 12:01 a.m.

The Gslackers attended the midnight premiere of Star Wars Episode III at the AMC Mercado in Santa Clara, CA. None of us are huge Star Wars fans, but we thought the midnight showing would be lively, and we weren't disappointed: the geekiness of Silicon Valley was evident in the large number of costumed attendees...

I bought a bunch of tickets for our friends over a month ago, which was a good thing since all 20 theatres at the Mercado got sold out a couple weeks ago. There were even people waiting in line after we left to see a 3 a.m. showing of the film!

Beverly is a bit embarassed to be taking part in this nerdfest.

There were about a zillion light-saber guys walking around.

Some people wore very elaborate costumes!

Even the Jedi were snapping photos.

I don't know enough about Star Wars to know what kind of monster he was...

Jedi congregated near the snack bar.

This guy was pretty excited to have his photo taken.

Beverly thought that the little kids dressed up as sand people were pretty cute.

I thought they were pretty cute, too. It must have been way past their bedtime, though.

Even aliens have to wait in line.

There were even a few women who dressed up.

An Anakin and Padme duo.

Doantam and Dan hang out in the theatre. We showed up three hours before the show to get good seats.

A big group from our building, Blackwelder, made it to the show.

There were several pre-show light saber battles.

It's cuter when little kids do it.

Allison, Kayvon, and Jeff increase the CS department presence.

Jedi prefer AT&T.

Doantam and Augusto debate the intricacies of cryogenics while we wait for the film to begin.

Dan looks a little bored... maybe because we finished all the snacks we brought with us.

Jed's "rival" Star Wars excursion was in the theatre down the hall.

Jeff looks pretty happy about Star Wars.

This is one of the few occassions where the men have to wait in line for the restroom.
