Assignment 5: Still Life

Jiawen

Jiawen Cheong: Iron Chef

This is a picture of my girlfriend slicing an orange in mid air. 2 shots were used to create this effect. First, I took a picture of my girlfriend holding the knife, and then I took a picture of the oranges in the same background. I used a pair of chopsticks to hold them up, since using my fingers would cast a shadow on the oranges. I then cut out the two halves of the orange in photoshop, and merged it onto the original image. This is a picture of my girlfriend slicing an orange in mid air. 2 shots were used to create this effect. I'm pretty bad at photoshop, so this is a really amateur attempt at levitation. The hardest part of this was making the shadow of the oranges look realistic. To make it less obvious that I had edited the image, I applied a retro filter to even out the colors. I also applied vignetting to draw attention to the orange. The lighting for this shot came from the kitchen lights, which was obviously from above. I think it worked out well for this shot.
