Assignment 8: Portraits

Jessica Liu: Banana Moon

This is a picture of my friend sitting on a banana-moon. I took photos of each component separately, first of the banana against a lamp, then of Kelly sitting on the edge of a tall table with a lamp to her bottom right, and then the background of my screensaver (I had tried to take a photo of the actual night sky, but there was too much light around and not enough stars). I drew in a few extra stars on photoshop to make it just a bit brighter.

In Photoshop, I cropped out the banana and my friend, and severely reduced the yellow color of the banana. I wanted it to appear more white than yellow and to make it almost glow, as if it were standing in for the moon. I painted on the shadows beneath her legs and fingers, the highlights in her hair, and the space fog in the background.
