However, if we are just interested in a single object, we only need a slice of the light field function. Just keep the rays that start from a closed surface around the object. We call this simpler function a lumigraph.

This lumigraph contains all the rays that are needed to render an image of the object, as long as the virtual camera is not inside the lumigraph surface.
