Assignment 1: Bad Photos

Isaac Kauvar: Into the quad.

   

In this photo, I harnessed overexposure as a tool to highlight the lines that define the form of the Stanford quad. By removing all other details, such as the texture of the sandstone and cobblestone, the clouds in the sky, and faces of the pedestrians, the viewer must focus attention only on outline of the structure and on the figures emanating through the central arch.
To further emphasize the curves, I shot this photo in monochrome to remove any distraction that color would offer.
I performed one slight touch up in photoshop, dodging out traces of a palm tree in the top left corner of the image in order to preserve the purity of the white sky.
