Instruction Timings and Datapath Necessities

The first step in designing the Nintendo system is to look at the requirements for the CPU and build a register transfer design for the datapath. The CPU is primarily dictated by the instructions supported and the cycle times for how long it takes to complete each instruction. In order to design a CPU which has such varieties in each of the different instructions, we need to go through each instruction and quantify what must happen during each cycle. This will define what is necessary within the datapath to perform each of the instructions.
