The goal behind the parallel port interface is to be able to connect the PC parallel port to the PD-PP board and to use it instead of the front panel. Once we got the parallel port connected, loading a program to the PD-PP was done in a matter of seconds. We wrote a code in C that sent signals through the parallel port of the PC and received data as well.
