Cross Layer Methods

Cross layer design envisions use of information at different layers to help performance. One area we are exploring is opportunistic scheduling, opportunistic frequency reuse and opportunistic frequency assignment in a MANET using multi channel MAC. In scheduling, we assume a number of nodes can be scheduled from given node and we pick the node with the best SNR or SINR. In opportunistic frequency reuse, we decide which nodes (based on instantaneous) channel state, can be assigned the same frequency / time resource n the network. In opportunistic frequency assignment, we further decide which nodes should be assigned to which frequencies. The underlying theory uses extremal value theory of distributions to come up with scaling laws.
